Rajasthan government expects sowing of kharif crops in 1.52 lakh hectare area for which it has taken steps in order to ensure availability of seeds at the time of sowing. Against the estimated demand of 7.80 lakh quintal seeds, arrangements of 8.56 lakh quintal seeds for crops that included pearl millet, maize and soybean has been made.
The government has set an ambitious target to achieve a record foodgrains production of 270.10 million tonnes (MT) in 2016-17 crop year (July-June) much higher than the last year’s target of 264.10 MT and even higher than the actual output of record 265.04 MT achieved in 2013-14.
The Met department has predicted above normal monsoon this year, after two years of successive deficient rains in the country, which could boost sowing of summer crops.
