Asian stock markets end higher on Friday; US payrolls data eyed

06 Apr 2012 Evaluate

Asian stock markets snapped the day’s trade mostly higher on Friday, in holiday-thinned trade, ahead of a monthly US hiring report. The payrolls report for March will be watched for further confirmation of a recovery in the world’s biggest economy but market reaction will be largely delayed until Monday because of the Easter long weekend. Moreover, the investors also got sigh of relief after the Chinese government said that it will more than double the amount foreigners can invest in equities, bonds and bank deposits.

Meanwhile, Chinese Shanghai ended up 0.20 percent in thin volume, moving around a key psychological level as investors awaited a slew of economic data next week which could signal possible policy changes. However, Japanese Nikkei share average fell for the fourth straight session on Friday ahead of a key US jobs report, and marked its worst weekly performance in eight months on fading hopes of further US stimulus and fresh concerns over the euro zone's debt crisis. The stock markets in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore remained shut on the account of Easter.
