Rs 5840.47 crore alloted to states under NHM from 2005-2012

Ministry of agriculture has released Rs .5840.47 to states as financial assistance under National Horticulture Mission (NHM) from 2005-2012. Out of this, Maharashtra got Rs 801.61, crores, followed by Andhra Pradesh Rs 620.80 crores, Karnataka Rs 608.58 crores, Tamil Nadu 486.96 crores and Uttar Pradesh Rs 422.82 crores, A & N Islands Rs 7.37.

The Budgetary allocation for NHM has been pegged at Rs. 1360 crore in the current financial year (2012-13) compared to Rs. 975 crore released in the last financial year.

The NHM is a centrally sponsored scheme implemented in 372 districts of 17 states and union territories. North Eastern and hilly States are covered under another scheme, named 'Horticulture Mission for North East and Himalayan States' (HMNEH). In these schemes Central Government contributes 85% of total outlay while 15% is contributed by State Governments. The goal of the mission is to encourage cultivation of fruits, vegetables, flowers and spices. It aims at making available horticultural produce, improving economic condition of farmers and increasing exports.
