Tata Steel is planning to invest about 800 million pound in its facilities in Wales over the next five years. The company has a number of facilities in Wales, however, it has not specified which facilities would receive the investment.
In December, the company announced that it would mothball its Llanwern processing mill in south Wales, citing weak demand for steel and a poor economic outlook.
Recently, the company opened a new steel distribution centre on Teesside to provide a faster and more efficient service for the construction industry. The company invested £3.1 million to create the new facility, which is located on the company’s Lackenby site, adjacent to its Teesside Beam Mill.
Tata Steel is one of the world’s top ten steel producers. The combined group has an aggregate crude steel capacity of more than 28 million tonnes and approximately 80,000 employees across four continents.
