The Union Ministry of Agriculture has decided to carry on agri clinics and agri business centres (ACABC) in 2012-13. Revised in 2010, the scheme was intended to aiding public extension services by promoting the concept of ‘agri-preneurs’. It aims to provide opportunities of self-employment to agricultural graduates in rural areas. The scheme has two components Agri clinics and agri-business centres.
Agri clinics are aimed at providing expert advice and services to farmers on various issues such as soil health, cropping practices, plant protection, crop insurance, post harvest technology and clinical services for animals, feed and fodder management, prices of various crops in the market etc. which would enhance productivity of crops/animals and ensure increased income to farmers, while agri-business centres are commercial units of agriventures established by trained agriculture professionals.
Such ventures may include maintenance and custom hiring of farm equipment, sale of inputs and other services in agriculture and allied areas, including post harvest management and market more than 60 percent of the course content in Agriculture and allied subjects. The later segment would get a one-time subsidy of 36 percent (for general candidates) and 44 percent for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and women.
Agri Clinics and Agri Business Centres Scheme is launched in year 2002 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operation, Government of India, New Delhi to promote diploma and degree holders in agriculture and its allied subjects to go in for agri venture rather than job employment. The scheme is being implemented by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) all over the country but its training part is being looked after by National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE ), Hyderabad.
