CBI searches two ex-armymen’s residences in Tatra truck scam; recovers key docs

Advancing step by step in the army involved Tatra truck scam, the investigating agency CBI, today raided two ex-army officers’ residences. These search operations were conducted at their Delhi and Noida houses and the CBI has recovered key documents related to the scam.

Besides this, CBI also searched house of an official of the Britain-based Vectra group that supplies truck parts to BEML. CBI in three teams carried out all these raids. Presently, the investigating agency is probing reason for BEML decision to procure Tatra parts from private company - Tatra Sipox (Britain) from 1997 while it was obtaining it through state-owned unit in Czech Republic - Omnipol, since 1986.

In March 2012, Army chief Gen V K Singh uncovered the blanket over the alleged scam wherein he alleged of being offered Rs 14 crore bribe to clear a deal for supplying sub-standard Tatra trucks. Singh alleged that Lt Gen (retd) Tejinder Singh offered bribe on behalf of truck suppliers Tatra and Vectra. The army press release dated March 05 reported names of Tatra and BEML. So far around 7,000 Tatra trucks have been bought by the army since 1986.
