Essar Ports set up 12mn tonne expansion at Vadinar terminal

In a bid to double its ports capacity to 158 million tonne by 2013, Essar Ports, one of the largest private sector ports in the country has set up 12 million tonne expansion at its Vadinar terminal in Gujarat at a cost of Rs 1,065 crore. Following this, Vadinar Port’s capacity has increased to 58 million tonne per annum, taking the company’s total capacity to 88 million tonne per annum.

At present, the company has two ports in operation and three under construction. The two ports in operation are at Hazira and Vadinar, both in Gujarat.

The company expecting a revenue growth of over 35% every year for the next few years based on increased realization and incremental traffic.

The company has lined up major expansion plans at Salaya, Paradip Haizra and Vadinar to double the capacity to 158 million tonne by 2013 at an expenditure of Rs 9,300 crore, of which the company had already spent more than Rs 6,300 crore.

The company registered a fall of 25.19% in its net profit for FY11 at Rs 70.15 crore as compared to Rs 93.77 crore for FY10. Total operating income declined 35.32% at Rs 1940.81 crore for the year from Rs 3000.45 crore in previous year.
