India's tea production in the month of September fell by 1.7% compared to the previous year. The production reached 154.56 million kg, according to data compiled by the state-run Tea Board.
The fall in production is attributing to the reduced plucking in the top producing north-eastern state of Assam. The production of tea in Assam fell by 8.5% from a year earlier and stood at 85.01 million kg.
India is the world's second biggest Tea producer in the world. The country exports CTC (crush- tear-curl) grade mainly to Egypt, Pakistan and the UK, and the orthodox variety to Iraq, Iran and Russia.
