ONGC to set up more urea and gas-based thermal power plants

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is likely to establish more urea and gas-based thermal power plants in the areas it has a presence in the hydrocarbon sector. It plans to set up a hydrocarbon-based urea fertilizer plant after completion of the power plant at Palatana in south Tripura district.

The first phase of the power plant, 363.3 MW, is expected to go on stream by June and the second phase, also of 363.3 MW, three months thereafter. With the commissioning of the Tripura urea plant, the entire North-East will be benefited and the fertilizer could be exported to Bangladesh as well.

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation is India's flagship exploration and production company, accounting for 75% of the total proved reserves in India. ONGC has proved reserves of over 7 billion boe and annual production of around 425 million boe.
