RIL’s telecom arm moves CCI against Vodafone, Airtel & Idea

29 Nov 2016 Evaluate

Reliance Industries’ (RIL) telecom arm - Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL) has approached the Competition Commission of India (CCI) against Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular, alleging them of forming a cartel to obstruct its entry into the telecom sector. The case, filed by RJIL, is likely to be heard within a fortnight, along with another complaint registered by Jio consumers on call quality.  The company’s complaint makes a reference to the recent order of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) which had also made observations on purported anti-competition practices followed by the trio when dealing with Jio.

RIL is an India-based private sector company, with business in energy and materials value chain and in retail and digital services. The company operates in four segments: refining, petrochemicals, oil & gas and organized retail. The refining segment includes production and marketing operations of the petroleum products.
