CBI raids 20 location in CWG scam; registers a fresh case

Continuing its probe in one of the various scams that are persisting in country at present, CBI today raided around 20 locations in connection with the Commonwealth Games scam which embarrassed nation on sports front. The CBI has launched these search operations in Delhi, Kolkata and Ghaziabad.

Besides this, the investigating agency also registered fresh case alleging irregularities in laying down of synthetic tracks in five stadium. 'A case has been registered against the Central Public Works Department, Delhi Development Authority and sports company Shiv Naresh. Losses worth Rs 30 crore have been traced in the scam,' a CBI official said.

The head of organizing committee - Suresh Kalmadi is the alleged mastermind in this scam who is accused for causing loss of over Rs 95 crore and is presently out on bail. The organizers including chairperson were accused for causing loss by awarding contracts at heightened amounts. These charges had cost OC chairperson Kalmadi his membership in Indian National Congress Party and post of president of the Indian Olympic Association.
