Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is in talks with Japan’s Nippon Steel & Sumitomo MetalCorp and Kobe Steel for potential technical agreements to help the firm expand its global footprint. India’s biggest state-owned steel producer has already held an initial round of talks with Japan’s top steel makers. The steel produced through the tie-ups could be sold to India’s defence sector. The company already supplies steel to the Indian navy and army, primarily for battle tanks.
SAIL is India’s largest steel producing company. The company is among the five Maharatnas of the country’s Central Public Sector Enterprises. The company has five integrated steel plants, three special plants, and one subsidiary in different parts of the country.
