Indian rupee was trading almost flat against US dollar on Wednesday on increased demand for the US currency from importers and as the American unit strengthened overseas. The forex and money markets remained closed yesterday on account of Municipal Elections for Greater Mumbai. On the global front, the dollar edged down in Asian trading as investors waited for the minutes of the Federal Reserve's latest meeting for clues as to the pace of interest rate hikes, while the euro nursed losses and remained pressured by European political woes.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 66.93, little changed from its previous close of 66.92 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 66.9625 and 66.8775 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 66.97 and for Euro stood at 71.05 on February 20, 2017. While the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 59.16, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 83.19. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
