After potash and phosphatic fertilisers, whose prices were partially decontrolled in 2010, the government will now go for a series of policy changes in pricing urea. The cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) is likely to consider these changes over next few weeks. Subsequently, however, the retail prices of urea could be hiked by 10% in a separate move, by next week.

Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers is currently trading at Rs 57.45, up by 3.30 points or 6.09% from its previous closing of Rs 54.15 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs 53.55 and has touched a high and low of Rs 60.15 and Rs 53.40 respectively. So far 1420669 shares were traded on the counter.
Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals is currently trading at Rs 73.15, up by 3.20 points or 4.57% from its previous closing of Rs 69.95 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs 70.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs 75.70 and Rs 69.50 respectively. So far 1206095 shares were traded on the counter.
However, concerned over the adverse impact of fertilisers on soil and crops, government plans to reduce subsidy on it and divert funds to organic manures, bio-fertilisers, green manures and promotion of organic farming. Sharad Pawar, stated that, the government plans to change the subsidy policy and give more subsidy for balanced fertilizers, while seeking Parliament's support to divert the subsidy for fertilisers to organic and balanced manure.
