2G scam’s brainbox Andimuthu Raja off from Tihar Jail

The ‘Captain of the Ship’ Andimuthu Raja, accused for his involvement in the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam, has been granted bail by a CBI Court today. Of the total 14 accused, A Raja is the last one to get bail as his plea was rejected over and over again reasoning the former telecom minister may influence witnesses.

Besides a personal bond of Rs 20 lakh and two sureties of same amount court has also conditioned that the released accused will not visit his home town Tamil Nadu and office of Department of Telecom. Also, Raja has been ordered to submit his passport to the same court.

A Raja’s party - DMK reacted positively to the news of his bail 'We welcome the court's verdict and are hopeful that he will come out and prove his innocence,' DMK leader Tiruchi Siva said. The former telecom minister has been accused for selling the 2G spectrum at throw-away prices and causing a loss of Rs 1.4 crore to the government. However, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa expressed displeasure and concerned as according to her the 2G scam case is getting diluted. The impact of A Raja’s bail was seen on the equity markets, as all the scam tainted stocks witnessed sudden spike up between 2-8%.
