SAIL lights-up new furnance at Bhilai Steel Plant: Report

Steel Authority of India’s (SAIL) Bhilai Steel Plant has reportedly crossed a significant milestone with the lighting up of the stoves of the plant’s new furnace which is slated to take its post modernization hot metal capacity to 7.5 million tonne.

One of the biggest blast furnaces in the country, Bhilai Steel Plant’s new furnace (BF No. 8) can produce more than 8,000 tonnes of hot metal per day. It will have an annual hot metal production capacity of 2.8 million tonne.

SAIL is India’s largest steel producing company. The company is among the five Maharatnas of the country’s Central Public Sector Enterprises. The company has five integrated steel plants, three special plants, and one subsidiary in different parts of the country.
