Yeddyurappa tries to play safe, amid raids opts for anticipatory bail

The once front face of BJP in Karnataka - BS Yeddyurappa, is now its all time trouble maker as the former chief minister has been in news for past 2-years for all wrong reasons. Recently, the Supreme Court has ordered CBI probe against Yeddyurappa and two companies - JSW Steel and Adani Enterprises in the illegal mining scam. Today, the investigating agency began its operations with search raids at Yeddyurappa’s residences in Bangalore and Shimoga. In order to avoid the arrest Yeddyurappa, who had already spent 23 days in jail last year for a land case, has asked for anticipatory bail for himself and on behalf of his sons and son-in-law in the CBI court.

Based on the orders of court, the CBI has filed an FIR against Yeddyurappa, his sons B Y Raghavendra, B Y Vijayendra and son-in-law R Sohan Kumar. Nine-member team of CBI officials will be investigating Yeddyurappa’s and aforementioned companies’ role in the mining case. CBI launched search operations not only at Yeddyurappa’s residence but also at South West Mining Company's offices in Tornagal in Bellary district. The CBI has been asked to submit the details of its findings in the court by August 03, 2012.

Yeddyurappa has been accused for receiving a kickback from mining company South West Mining which is the subsidiary of JSW Steel as a favour for facilitating license. Of the bribe, certain amount was also credited to a firm run by Yeddyurappa’s son-in-law RN Sohan Kumar and another firm owned by son Vijayendra and his brother BY Raghavendra.
