Bharti Airtel slashes 3G services tariff rates by 70 per cent

18 May 2012 Evaluate

Global telecommunications company, Bharti Airtel has slashed 3G services tariff rates by up to 70 per cent, thereby setting off battleground in the 3G space even as the industry appears to be crawling back from the savage price wars that plagued the sector for the past three years.

As per the development, the new volume based browsing rate on 3G that would go down from 10 paise per 10kb to 3 paise per 10kb, will be applicable for 3G non-pack users with effect from May 17, 2012. The offer is for those customers who have yet not subscribed for 3G service, with average high Internet speed of between 1 megabit per second to 2 mbps, under any special offer and urge to use high speed Internet as per their need.

However, the new data plan for pre-paid customers would start at Rs 10 for 30 minutes of usage over a one-day validity; Rs 45 for 150 MB data valid for 7 days and Rs 1,500 for 10 GB data valid for 30 days.  Further, under another tariff plan titled ‘Smartbytes’, the company plans to offer additional data usage packs for its 3G post-paid mobile customers , which exhaust their monthly limit of high speed internet usage. The Smartbytes additional data usage packs would be available in a range of predetermined price options that allow Airtel 3G customers to choose a plan as per their needs.

The company had won 3G spectrum in 13 out of the 22 telecom circles in a government-led auction in 2010 for over Rs 12,000 crore.
