Rupee weakens against US dollar on Thursday

Indian rupee weakened against the American currency on Thursday due to fresh demand for the American unit from importers and banks.  Besides, a lower opening in the domestic equity market also fuelled the downtrend. On the global front, the dollar slipped against a major basket of currencies, weighed down by caution over the impending US-China summit and geopolitical concerns.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 65.01, weaker by 14 paise from its previous close of 64.87 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 65.0575 and 64.97 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 65.04 and for Euro stood at 69.40 on April 05, 2017. While the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 58.76, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 80.87.The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
