Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN), the company which is building the IT mainstay of the new indirect tax regime, has assured stakeholders that all their data will be stored in an encrypted form and only the tax payer and the concerned assessing officer will have access to the information.
Easing anxieties of data theft, GSTN CEO Prakash Kumar has said that data will be stored with two-layers of security. He assured that GSTN is applying the best available security systems for data. He highlighted that data security is of key importance because in invoice, the item cost is also included. Therefore, he said that all the information which will come to them, it is always in encrypted mode and the database administrator has been designed in a way that no outsider can see the data.
Kumar further said that GSTN will complete training of 60,000 central and state officers by mid-May to prepare them for the new IT mainstay for new tax regime. He noted that 56.5 lakh taxpayers of the total 80 lakh assessees have already been enrolled under GST. This includes 75.28 per cent of all the value added tax (VAT) assessees. Similarly, 31.5 per cent of the service tax payers have also registered.
