The Trinamool Congress (TMC) party filed a complaint with the police against a BJP youth wing leader for placing a bounty on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Confirming this development, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajesh Kumar Pandey said that ‘some media reports highlighted that some minister made remarks against West Bengal chief minister. In the morning itself, through local intelligent units, we found that he had distributed a press note in newspapers where he made some remarks against the Chief Minister. In connection with this, the TMC's district president filed a complaint.’

Earlier, Parliament was adjourned amid a ruckus over BJP youth wing leader Yogesh Varshney's offer of a reward of Rs 11 lakh for Mamata's head. The TMC raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha and received support other opposition parties as well. Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan expressed anguish over Varshney's remark saying the saffron party seemed keen on protecting cows and not women. TMC leader Saugata Roy called for strong action against people making remarks. Varshney issued the outrageous threat during Hanuman Jayanti rally in Birbhum on Sunday.
