SAIL invests Rs 64,562 crore on modernisation, expansion of plants

Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has spent a total of Rs 64562 crore on modernisation and expansion programmes, which also includes Rs 2324 crore investment in first nine months of the last financial year.

The company has undertaken the modernisation and expansion of its integrated steel plants at Bhilai, Bokaro, Rourkela, Durgapur and Burnpur and special steel plant at Salem. In the ongoing modernisation and expansion, the crude steel capacity is being enhanced from 12.8 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 21.4 MTPA.

SAIL is India’s largest steel producing company. The company is among the five Maharatnas of the country’s Central Public Sector Enterprises. The company has five integrated steel plants, three special plants, and one subsidiary in different parts of the country.
