24 Apr 2017 Evaluate

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Monday on increased selling of the American currency by exporters and banks amid a higher opening in the domestic equity market. Besides, the dollar’s weakness against some currencies overseas supported the rupee. On the global front, the euro pared gains after scaling a five-month high against the dollar on Monday after the centrist candidate won the first round of the French presidential election, reducing the risk of an anti-establishment shock in the final round.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 64.47, stronger by 15 paise from its previous close of 64.62 on Friday. The currency touched a high and low of 64.5425 and 64.4625 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 64.57 and for Euro stood at 69.16 on April 21, 2017. While the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 59.03, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 82.70. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
