25 Apr 2017 Evaluate

Indian rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Tuesday on account of increased selling of the American currency by banks and exporters. Besides, a firm domestic equity market too supported the rupee sentiment. However, the US dollar’s strength against other currencies overseas capped the rupee’s gain. On the global front, the euro edged lower on Tuesday, catching its breath after a relief rally sparked by the first round results of the French election, while the Canadian dollar fell on news of US duties on Canadian softwood lumber.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 64.29, stronger by 15 paise from its previous close of 64.44 on Monday. The currency touched a high and low of 64.4150 and 64.2725 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 64.47 and for Euro stood at 69.98 on April 24, 2017. While the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 58.56, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 82.45. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
