Alstom T&D India has bagged a contract worth Rs 96 crore from Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Co (MSETCL), for the erection, testing and commissioning of a 400/220 kV Gas-insulated Substation in the Hinjewadi district of Pune, in Maharashtra state. The contract also includes associated civil work for the substation.

Hinjewadi is the emerging IT centre of Maharashtra and planned infrastructure development is increasing the demand for power. The GIS substation, having a transformation capacity of 7x167 MVA would aid in meeting the energy demands of the area while eliminating land scarcity issues, as GIS technology allows the substation to be more compact.

The GIS substations are highly reliable and help to reduce pollution. Alstom T&D India was the first company in the country to localise GIS technology up to 400 kV at its manufacturing facility in Padappai, (Chennai), in southern India. The company holds the record for having the highest number of GIS bays installed in the country. Since 2009, the company has supplied more than 110 GIS bays to various customers in India.

Alstom T&D India (globally known as Alstom Grid), is a market leader in the Indian power transmission sector. It has over 100 years of expertise in building the transmission infrastructure for the country. Alstom has a strong portfolio of products, solutions and services, comprising the entire range of transmission equipment up to Extra and Ultra High Voltages (765 kV and beyond) including air-insulated switchgear (AIS) and locally manufactured power transformers and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS).
