Wheat, rice stock with govt procurement agencies tops 544.33 lakh tonnes in March

The combined stock of wheat and rice with government procurement agencies in the country stood over 544.33 lakh tonnes as on March 1, 2012. This comprises 331.78 lakh tonnes of rice and 212.55 tonnes of wheat. In addition, the procurement of rice as on March 1, 2012 (Kharif marketing season 2011-12) was 341.98 lakh tonnes as against 321.24 lakh tonnes in the corresponding period of last year. Wheat procurement for Rabi Marketing Season 2011-12 was 283.35 lakh tonnes as against 225.14 lakh tonnes procured last year.

The off-take of rice under all schemes during March, 2012, has been 26.29 lakh tonnes. This includes 20.57 lakh tonnes of under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) and 5.72 lakh tonnes under other schemes. The total-off take of wheat has been 22.05 lakh tonnes containing of 16.21 lakh tonnes under TPDS and 5.84 lakh tonnes under other schemes.

The total allotment of rice during March, 2012, under TPDS including Below the Poverty Line (BPL), Above the Poverty Line (APL) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) was 22.02 lakh tonnes, against which the total off-take was 20.57 lakh tonnes, representing an overall percentage off-take of 93.4 percent. The BPL allotment of rice was 9.70 lakh tonnes, against which the off take was 9.40 lakh tonnes, representing percentage off take 96.9 percent.

In respect of AAY the allotment during the month was 5.73 lakh tonnes, against which the off-take was 5.54 lakh tonnes, 96.7 percent of off-take. The total allotment of wheat under TPDS including BPL, APL and AAY was 19.55 lakh tonnes, against which the total off take was 16.21 lakh tonnes, representing an overall percentage 82.9 percent off take. The BPL allotment of wheat was 4.85 lakh tonnes, against which the off take was 5.05 lakh tonnes representing off-take of 104 percent. In respect of AAY, the allotment was 2.79 lakh tonnes, against which the off take was 2.58 lakh tonnes, which represents 92.5 percent off take.
