Bond yields trade higher on Friday

30 Jun 2017 Evaluate

Bond yields edged higher on Friday, as fresh supply of bonds and higher U.S. yields triggered fresh selling pressure in debt securities.

In the global market, benchmark U.S. Treasury yields rose to six-week highs on Thursday on the likelihood that central banks in Europe will become less accommodative, before bonds pared price losses as stocks declined. Furthermore, Crude oil futures were on track for their biggest weekly gain since mid-May, ending five weeks of losses with prices underpinned by a decline in U.S. output.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 1 basis point higher at 6.52% from its previous close of 6.51% on Thursday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading flat at its previous close at 6.72% on Thursday.
