Alstom T&D India successfully charges 765/400 kV Switchyard Bays

Alstom T&D India has successfully charged three switchyard bays, at 765 kV and 400 kV each, in March 2012 in a record time of less than eight months, for Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), the country's central transmission utility. In February 2010, PGCIL awarded the contract worth Rs 196.00 crore to Alstom T&D India. Due to delay in land acquisition the company could start work on the 765 kV switchyard in July 2011.

The scope of work included design, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of 765 kV, 400 kV and 220kV equipments, comprising complete civil work for their green field project at Bhiwani located in the state of Haryana.

This Bhiwani switchyard is considered as a nodal switchyard for wheeling power from independent power producers in northern India and strengthening the transmission system in the northern region of the country. The switchyard shall cater to various other 765 kV switchyards in northern India namely Moga, Jhatikara, Meerut and Jaipur.

Alstom T&D India is part of Alstom Grid, a global player in electrical grids. Company’s India operations account for over 13% of overall revenues garnered by Alstom Grid’s global operations. Apart from India business, other major contributors are the operations in France, the US, Germany and China.
