Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Friday amid strong demand for the American currency from importers amid foreign fund outflows. Further, US dollar’s strength against other currencies overseas and early losses in domestic equity markets also influenced the rupee. On the global front, the dollar set an eight-week low against the yen on Friday as escalating tensions between the United States and North Korea triggered yet more investor flight to safety.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 64.2450, weaker by 18 paise from its previous close of 64.07 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 64.27 and 64.1650 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 63.94 and for Euro stood at 75.06 on August 10, 2017.
