Grasim Industries gets USDA biobased Certification for Birla Spunshades

20 Sep 2017 Evaluate

Grasim Industries has been awarded the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) certified biobased product label for its dope dyed fibres- Birla Spunshades. Utilising renewable, bio-based materials displaces the need for non-renewable petroleum based chemicals.

Biobased products, through petroleum displacement, have played an increasingly important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate global climate change. Biobased products are cost-comparative, readily available, and perform as well as or better than their conventional counterparts.

Grasim Industries is the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group. Starting as a textiles manufacturer in 1948, today Grasim’s businesses comprise viscose staple fibre (VSF), cement, chemicals and textiles. Its core businesses are VSF and cement, which contribute to over 90% of its revenues and operating profits.
