Bond yields trade higher on Tuesday

17 Oct 2017 Evaluate

Bond yields edged higher on Tuesday, tracking a rise in U.S. Treasury yields, as underlying sentiments remained negative in a holiday-truncated week.

In the global market, U.S. Treasury yields rose on Monday after a report that President Donald Trump was favoring Stanford economist John Taylor to head the Federal Reserve, and Fed Chair Janet Yellen's weekend comments that the economy remained strong. Furthermore, oil prices steadied, holding on to gains made as fighting between Iraqi and Kurdish forces threatened supplies from northern Iraq while political tension rose between the United States and Iran.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 2 basis points higher at 6.75% from its previous close of 6.73% on Monday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 2 basis points higher at 6.67% from its previous close of 6.65% on Monday.
