ONGC shines on starting gas production at North Tapti offshore gas field

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is currently trading at Rs. 265.15, up by 1.95 points or 0.74% from its previous closing of Rs. 263.20 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 262.35 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 266.60 and Rs. 262.35 respectively. So far 13640 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 5 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 303.90 on 22-Feb-2012 and a 52 week low of Rs. 240.10 on 23-May-2012.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 273.55 and Rs. 259.15 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 227062.71 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 69.23% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 17.06% and 13.72% respectively. 

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has begun commercial production of gas from the North Tapti offshore marginal gas field. Early this month it has connected three wells of North Tapti to the Cairn-operated CB-OS/2 joint venture in Cambay Basin in Gujarat, for processing.

The company aims current flow of 15-20 million standard cubic feet a day (mscmd) from this gas field. The Rs 580-crore project is expected to reach a peak production level of 1.8 mscmd.

On the standalone basis, the company has posted a rise of 102.24% in its net profit at Rs 5644.38 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2012 as compared to Rs 2790.86 crore for the same quarter in the previous year.  Total income has increased by 21.80% at Rs 20,332.90 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs 16,693.48 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2011.
