Cement stocks crumble after CCI order

The cement stocks are trading under pressure after the competition watchdog, Competition Commission of India (CCI), levied a hefty penalty of over Rs 6000 crore on eleven leading cement companies for price cartelization.

ACC is currently trading at Rs. 1223.30, down by 32.70 points or 2.60% from its previous closing of Rs. 1256.00 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 1193.05 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 1240.80 and Rs. 1191.00 respectively. So far 92700 shares were traded on the counter.

Ultratech Cement is currently trading at Rs. 1443.00, down by 20.55 points or 1.40% from its previous closing of Rs. 1463.55 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 1405.15 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 1449.00 and Rs. 1380.00 respectively. So far 13401 shares were traded on the counter.

Ambuja Cements is currently trading at Rs. 167.00, down by 4.60 points or 2.68% from its previous closing of Rs. 171.60 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 162.70 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 169.25 and Rs. 162.70 respectively. So far 313295 shares were traded on the counter.

The CCI levied a penalty of nearly Rs 6,300 crore on 11 cement companies. ACC, Ambuja Cements, Ultratech, India Cements, Madras Cements, Century Cements, Binani Cements, Lafarge India and Jaypee Cements, all these companies were found in violation of the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002 by CCI.
