Sangma stating that in a democratic economy debate is essential especially when the economy is sinking, “Who is responsible for all this corruption? It has to be a candidate to candidate debate.”
Looking forward to play with his ace tribal card, Sangma, said that it is not a challenge to the current finance minister and it is a practice. 'Democracy means debate. I am asking for debate,' he added.

Sangma is supported by the largest opposition party - BJP and AIADMK, however, has not received any response from Trinamool Congress party whose backing will prove highly helpful to this prestigious leader from North-East. Sangma has sought for appointment with TMC head - Mamata Banerjee and Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.

Trying to cover up the rift in NDA caused by BJP’s support to him, Sangma said that presidential polls have divided almost all political parties. In case of UPA-II, its largest ally - TMC, is not supporting Pranab Mukherjee candidature.
