KIOCL (formerly Kudremukh Iron Ore Company) is planning to take up exploration of iron ore and gold in Tamil Nadu (TN) and Karnataka, respectively. The company has been recognised as a mineral exploration entity under the MMDR Act 1957 for carrying mineral exploration works across the country.
The company is empowered to prospect for iron ore in 100 sq km area in Tirpur district of Tamil Nadu. This will be completed in the next six months. The company will also work on prospecting for gold in around 200 sq km of area in Mysuru district of Karnataka state. These are the two major assignments that have been given to the company.
KIOCL is Asia's largest iron ore mining and pelletisation complex and the country's biggest 100% export oriented unit engaged in the business of exporting high quality iron oxide pellets and pig iron.
