Bond yields trade higher on Tuesday

09 Jan 2018 Evaluate

Bond yields edged higher on Tuesday, tracking gains in crude oil prices that threaten to add to inflation. Investors also awaited a state bond auction later in the day.

In the global market, U.S. bond yields were little changed on Monday after a boost from stronger German government debt and a Federal Reserve official's remarks that the U.S. central bank may only raise rates two times this year. Furthermore, U.S. oil prices hit their highest since 2015 as speculators bet on further price rises amid OPEC-led production cuts and a dip in American drilling activity.

Back home, the yields on new 10 year Government Stock were trading 2 basis points higher at 7.36% from its previous close of 7.34% on Monday.

The benchmark five-year interest rates were trading 1 basis point higher at 7.19% from its previous close of 7.18% on Monday.
