Mukherjee to resign today while opponent Sangma seeks TMC support

After an emotional farewell by the Congress Working Committee yesterday, the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is all set to submit his resignation to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today. The Finance Minister, who is the presidential candidate of UPA-II, will be filing the nomination papers on June 28, 2012.

On the other hand, P A Sangma the presidential candidate supported by BJP, AIADMK and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has begun talks with the Trinamool Congress chief and Chief Minister of Bengal Mamata Banerjee. Sangma is seeking support from the largest ally of Congress party which is also part of UPA-II government but against supporting Mukherjee.

Presently, most of the political parties are supporting Mukherjee viz., all constituents of UPA-II except TMC and other parties in his favour include Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Communist Party of India-Marxist, the All India Forward Bloc, the Janata Dal-United and the Shiv Sena.
