Asian markets are exhibiting mixed trend in early deals on Thursday, with some benchmarks erasing early morning gains. Investors remained skittish after this week's financial turmoil and overnight losses on Wall Street. The Japanese market is rising on the back of a weaker yen and as US stocks closed modestly lower overnight in the final hour of trading. Among the other Asian markets, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Malaysia are also edging higher. Bucking the trend, Shanghai, Taiwan, Indonesia and Singapore are lower.

Nikkei 225 added 220.97 points or 1.02% to 21,866.34, Hang Seng gained 19.33 points or 0.06% to 30,342.53, KOSPI Index spurt 13.7 points or 0.57% to 2,410.26, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was up by 3.06 points or 0.17% to 1,839.74.

Shanghai Composite dropped 49.56 points or 1.5% to 3,259.70, Jakarta Composite slipped 13.54 points or 0.21% to 6,521.33, Taiwan Weighted dipped 12.98 points or 0.12% to 10,538.56, and Straits Times was down by 2.31 points or 0.07% to 3,381.46.
