Raisana Hill race has gathered pace with Pranab Mukherjee being ahead of the game with the support of many political parties. P A Sangma, the candidate of the opposition party - BJP is lagging, as unable to get backing from the political parties despite his various attempts to convince them. Both the contestants today filed the nomination for the Presidential poll.

'I only wish at this time that we have the blessing of god and cooperation of all at this juncture,' Mukherjee said after filing his nomination at the Rajya Sabha secretariat. As a presidential candidate he said, he was being supported by a 'large number of parties who are supporting UPA government like Shiv Sena, JD-U, CPI-M, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Forward Bloc' as well as by other parties who did not support the government. By naming the parties the UPA-II candidate said: 'I am grateful to them as they have reposed faith in me to occupy the office, which was occupied in past by great stalwarts of this country.'

Post filing the nominations, Mukherjee went to knock the doors of Trinamool Congress party to seek their support. Mukherjee’s visit to TMC comes merely two days after his opponent P A Sangma’s similar move. “I seek the support of all those including Trinamool Congress, who have not yet decided…I only wish at this time that let me have the blessings of God and cooperation of all at this juncture”, Mukherjee said. TMC is only party of UPA-II government which is not backing Mukherjee’s presidential candidature.

Mukherjee will begin his campaign from June 30 from Chennai followed by visits to Hyderabad and Bangalore. His political campaign will end on July 15, 2012.
