All of the Asian equity indices are trading down in the early deals on Tuesday, following the overnight sell-off on Wall Street after a fall in technology stocks and amid fears of rising trade tensions between the US and China. Japan’s Nikkei share average fell, led by technology firms and makers of electronic components after US tech stocks tumbled overnight on resurgent trade war fears. Meanwhile, China and Hong Kong stocks fell as trade war fears resurfaced after Beijing unveiled retaliatory trade measures against the United States.
Nikkei 225 dropped 118.22 points or 0.55% to 21,270.36, Hang Seng slipped 179.7 points or 0.6% to 29,913.68, Taiwan Weighted declined 82.24 points or 0.76% to 10,806.03, Shanghai Composite contracted 29.51 points or 0.93% to 3,133.67, Straits Times decreased 31.41 points or 0.92% to 3,399.38, Jakarta Composite tumbled 23.47 points or 0.38% to 6,217.10, KOSPI Index crumbled 13.56 points or 0.55% to 2,430.60, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI down by 3.53 points or 0.19% to 1,854.82.
