Vice Presidential election will be held on August 7, 2012

The Election Commission has announced the conduct of election for the post of vice-president, on August 7, with Vice President Hamid Ansari completing his tenure on August 10. The last day for filing the nomination is July 20 and the papers will be analyzed on July 21, the last day for withdrawal of candidature is July 23.

The poll will be held between 10 am and 5 pm and the counting of votes will be on the same day of election at 6 pm.  The Vice-President will be elected by the members of the Electoral College consisting of members of both houses of parliament. The nominated members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha are also eligible to participate in the election, to the post of Vice-President.

Moreover, the new President will take oath of his office on July 25. UPA's Pranab Mukherjee and Opposition’s candidate P A Sangma are in the race for the presidential post.
