Hindustan Unilever (HUL) has initiated a campaign to save water and has set up ‘India Water Body’ (IWB) to fight the scarcity of water. IWB is envisaged as a collaborative group involving multiple corporate houses, NGOs and the Government, and hopes to evolve a public-private partnership model to focus on the issue. The company, as part of this campaign, will conduct a nation-wide study to assess the demand and supply gap of water.
Further, it will also launch products that will conserve water and consume less water as compared to other current products in the market to reach the set goals of R&D of the company by 2020. The company already has several products like Surf Excel that are water efficient. It has already initiated projects in several states to create capacity towards conserving more than 50 billion litres of water by 2015.
