Rupee weakens against US dollar on Friday

Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Friday as market participants remained cautious amid continuing trade talks between US and China while awaiting US April jobs data later in the day. Further, domestic equity markets opened on a cautious note following global cues. On the global front, the dollar held steady against a basket of currencies on Friday, having retreated from four-month highs on profit-taking, with the focus on whether US jobs data will provide the spark for another push higher.

The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 66.70, weaker by 6 paise from its previous close of 66.64 on Thursday. The currency touched a high and low of 66.7025 and 66.6250 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 66.60 and for Euro stood at 79.85 on May 3, 2018. While the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 60.79, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 90.60. The reference rates are based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai.
