Reliance Industries’ subsidiary enters into JV with UK-based 2SFG

Reliance Industries’ subsidiary, Reliance Retail, has entered into joint venture (JV) with a UK-based meat-processing company, 2 Sisters Food Group (2SFG), to introduce chilled and frozen foods at its food & grocery outlets, as mentioned in a media report. Both the companies are also setting up a plant to process chilled food.

2 Sisters Food Group, which is a major European food company supplying Poultry, Fish, Chilled, Bakery and frozen products to the retail, food service and food manufacturing sectors, is mulling an strong foray in the Rs 7,000-crore organized Indian food services market with a quick service restaurant (QSR) chain, however, whether Reliance will have any direct ownership in the restaurant business, remains unclear.

Reliance Retail is the second largest retailer in India. Its retail outlets offer foods, groceries, apparel and footwear, lifestyle and home improvement products, electronic goods, and farm implements and inputs. The company’s outlets also provide vegetables, fruits, and flowers. It focuses on consumer goods, consumer durables, travel services, energy, entertainment and leisure, and health and well-being products, as well as on educational products and services.
