Fumed over rejecting her preferred Presidential Candidate, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is likely to stay away from the presidential polls on July 19, 2012. Besides, Banerjee may ask her legislators to abstain from the polls and also not to support Hamid Ansari for a second term as vice-president if the UPA formally nominates him.

The chief minister of West Bengal has tried to stage her candidate for the presidential post, however, her preferred candidate is not contesting the polls, Banerjee decided to remain on the sideline of the polls. Both the presidential candidates, Sangma and Mukherjee have sought her support, however, it remained unaccepted.

TMC is reportedly unhappy over the handling and dilly-dallying of Lokpal Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Also the UPA-II’s largest ally wants government to consider former West Bengal governor Gopal Gandhi or Krishna Bose as candidates for the vice-president post. As per few media reports, Congress has been trying to get support from its allies for retaining Hamid Ansari as vice-president, the TMC chief is likely to refuse backing him too.
