The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced its 55th round of Industrial Outlook Survey (IOS) for second quarter of current financial year i.e. July-September, 2011 period. Centre for Research Planning and Action (CERPA) has been mandated to conduct the survey for this quarter on behalf of the RBI. The IOS was introduced to provide useful forward inputs for policy makers and analysts and business alike.

The RBI has been conducting IOS since 1998 on a quarterly basis. The IOS covers non financial private and public limited companies with good size/industries representation. The IOS provides an insight into the perception of non-financial public and private limited companies engaged in manufacturing activities about their performance and future prospects.

The assessment of business sentiments for the current quarter and expectations for the ensuing quarter are based on qualitative responses to the 20 major parameters covering overall business situation, financial situation, demand indicators, price and employment expectations, profit margins, etc. the RBI said in statement. Other manufacturing companies which are not approached by the agency are eligible to participate in the survey by downloading the survey schedule from the RBI’s website, RBI added.

CERPA, which was established in 1972, conducts social science research, provides consultancy on developmental issues, helps planners and policymakers and provides charitable services to the disadvantaged and poor sections of the country.
