Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar on Thursday due to fresh buying of the American currency by importers amid sustained foreign fund outflows. On the global front, the dollar hovered near an 11-month high against a basket of currencies, supported by a rise in US yields, while the pound was at its lowest level since November 2017 ahead of a Bank of England monetary policy decision.
The partially convertible currency is currently trading at 68.19, weaker by 12 paise from its previous close of 68.07 on Wednesday. The currency touched a high and low of 68.2475 and 68.1350 respectively. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) reference rate for the dollar stood at 68.08 and for Euro stood at 78.82 on June 20, 2018. While the RBI’s reference rate for the Yen stood at 61.82, the reference rate for the Great Britain Pound (GBP) stood at 89.59.
