Asian market indices are exhibiting a mixed trend in early deals on Wednesday as the continued advance in oil prices and trade-related headlines took center stage for investors. The Japanese market is declining despite the positive cues from Wall Street and a weaker yen as lingering worries about a global trade war weighed on investors’ sentiments. Meanwhile, China and Hong Kong stocks fell and looked set to post their third straight session of decline, amid lingering trade war fears and a depreciating yuan. Among the other Asian markets, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia are higher. On the other hand, Taiwan is lower.
Nikkei 225 dropped 9.35 points or 0.04% to 22,332.65, Hang Seng dipped 167.60 points or 0.58% to 28,713.80, Taiwan Weighted slipped 14.44 points or 0.13% to 10,727.73, and Shanghai Composite down by 12.93 points or 0.46% to 2,831.58.
On the flip side, Straits Times added 6.31 points or 0.19% to 3,287.18, KOSPI Index gained 2.02 points or 0.09% to 2,352.94, FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI increased 0.28 points or 0.02% to 1,676.14, and Jakarta Composite up by 25.52 points or 0.44% to 5,851.17.
