In a shocking incident, the mastermind of Common Wealth Games Suresh Kalmadi who was released on bail early this year has been allowed to travel to London on the eve of Olympics 2012. Delhi court’s Special CBI judge Talwant Singh has granted this permission on the surety bond of Rs 10 lakh.

'Accused no 1 (Kalmadi) is a member of International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Council and President of Asian Athletics Association (AAA) and arguments on charge on his behalf are already over. The arguments on charge of the other accused in the case are going on and it will take time in concluding. Accordingly, the application of Kalmadi is allowed,' the judge said.

The court has made it clear that Kalmadi can visit London only for Olympics 2012 and for no other purpose. The former tainted chairman of CWG’s organizing committee can visit from July 26 to August 13, 2012.

Kalmadi was lodged for causing loss of over Rs 95 crore by awarding the contract for installing the Timing-Scoring-Result system to Swiss Times Omega at an exorbitant cost of Rs 141 crore. These charges had cost OC chairperson Kalmadi his membership in Indian National Congress Party and post of president of the Indian Olympic Association.
