Asian market indices are exhibiting a mixed trend in early deals on Thursday after US and Chinese officials held talks on their deepening trade dispute ahead of a new round of tariff hikes. Japan's Nikkei edged up after a weak yen supported overall sentiment, but a profit warning by Germany's Continental dragged down auto stocks and tire makers. Among the other Asian markets, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia are higher. Bucking the trend, South Korea, Shanghai and Hong Kong are in negative territory.

Nikkei 225 added 41.06 points or 0.18% to 22,403.61, Taiwan Weighted gained 30.92 points or 0.29% to 10,835.12, Jakarta Composite spurt 2.87 points or 0.05% to 5,947.17, Straits Times increased 46.63 points or 1.44% to 3,246.52, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI was up by 8.37 points or 0.47% to 1,806.48.

On the flip side, KOSPI Index dipped 1.99 points or 0.09% to 2,271.34, Shanghai Composite dropped 9.21 points or 0.34% to 2,705.40, and Hang Seng was down by 200.52 points or 0.72% to 27,727.06.
